So many Jeep enthusiasts were fearing a catostrophic failure once word got out that the Fiat brand was going to use their new 500X platform to launch a small Jeep to the global marketplace. As the covers came off in Geneva those critics quickly stood to their feet and clapped as the baby Jeep we had dreamt of in our minds seemed to appear with most of the wishlist checked off.
Small and seemingly capable off road handling – check.
Open air removable roof panels like the Jeep JK – check.
Boxy looks that are modern, quaint, and just a touch of tough like a British bulldog – check.
Therefore this new Jeep Renegade with a standard 1.4l turbo four and manual transmission should be a great urban explorer for a new generation of Jeep owners. When loaded up to the Trailhawk version the Renegade should also keep with the traditional Jeep pedigree and offer a fun budget off-roader that the brand has been missing for some time.
